STUDENT LEADERSHIP

PURPOSE

Student co-creation and community organizing are core HCCP values. Our team aims to encourage student leaders by providing spaces to organize and create change. This begins with hiring students, teaching them core principles of community organizing, and supporting them to build community among each other. All alumni of HCCP programs are encouraged to join the team as strategy consultants to develop and lead future student programming.

In the spring of 2022, Ariana Mixon began a campaign to develop a peer mentorship group for URM pre-health students. Learn more about the Peer Mentorship campaign below.

PEER MENTORSHIP

ORGANIZING STATEMENT

We are organizing URM Students in WA enrolled in health career programs, to intentionally create support systems for student wellbeing, academic advancement, and leadership opportunities in health careers, by creating peer mentorship structures with healthcare graduate students, college students, and high school students.

GOAL

The Peer Mentorship program aims to assist in the connection of pre-healthcare students who have gone through a HCCP program. Through these connections we hope to help foster relationships that can contribute to support systems for student wellbeing, academic advancement, and leadership opportunities in health careers. Pairing of individuals will be done through the best ability of aligning similarities, while also ensuring there is space for each individual to learn something new.

CAMPAIGN DEVELOPMENT

Peer Mentorship was developed through the guidelines learned and implemented from the WiLD (Wisconsin Leadership Development) Academy. This campaign is being led by Ariana Mixon in conjunction with several other alumni from HCCP programs.
